Assistant Program Director | 1240 KEJO AM

SUMMARY: Assist the current Program Director with the creation or download of the daily shows and editing of content for Bicoastal Media with primary focus on Oregon State Athletics and emphasis on broadcast quality audio content.

Hours: Currently a max of 32 per week

Compensation: Hourly, Non-exempt – $13-15 per hour, D.O.E.

Reports To: Station Program Director

Supervisory responsibilities include: Creating a schedule for Board Operators. This position will oversee the pool of Board ops and ensure that we have coverage for all live events. The assistant PD will oversee the onboarding and training of new board ops and assist in the recruitment and development of new talent.


  • High School diploma (or equivalent)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum two years professional experience producing content for a media outlet, team, league, school, or agency w/published work
  • Experience with Broadcast Automation systems
  • Fully competent with Microsoft Office Products and strong computer skills
  • Excellent communication and oratory skills
  • Experience as play-by-play talent
  • Experience producing written work
  • Experience in publishing content to the Internet
  • Ability to meet deadlines on short notice
  • Strong proofreading and keyboarding skills
  • Extensive knowledge of and passion for sports
  • Experience with Adobe suite of programs (Photoshop, Premier, Audition etc.) a plus


  • Ability to work for extended periods of time
  • Ability to drive to various sites for interviews and play-by-play duties

  • Varied hours depending on sports seasons and live events

Position Type



  • Serve as a back-up when the Program Director is unavailable.
  • Operation of various broadcast control boards.
  • Ensure smooth operation of all live sporting events which includes scheduling, board operation, training and live production.
  • Assisting in programming and scheduling shows and live events
  • Helping to produce the Joe Beaver Show, a 2-hour sports talk show
  • Occasional co-hosting of the Joe Beaver Show
  • Commercial production
  • Creative input & production tasks for promos, features and other sports programming
  • Conducting & recording of interviews
  • Creation and editing of local news actualities
  • Assisting in identifying & uploading suitable content for websites & social media accounts.
  • Contributing as talent for various digital and broadcast content pieces and shows.
  • Travel to and from various sporting events as needed.
  • Special projects and assignments as business dictates.
  • Research and show prep.
  • Play-by-play for high school sports (to be paid separately).
  • Other programming and on-air duties as needed.
